Don’t Push. Pull.

Every business is trying to generate web traffic.  Setting aside the question of whether that’s really the ideal goal, let’s consider another.  Are you trying to get people to do something they wouldn’t do ordinarily?  Is there anything on your website that they would find entertaining?  Have you created an interactive experience for them?  Does your site offer valuable information they want and are seeking out?  You can try to push people to your site to see what you have to offer, but it’s far more effective to draw them in with something they want to see.  If web traffic is really your goal, then there’s no better use of your time than brainstorming as many new content ideas as you possibly can — then implementing them.
